My first DroidOS gadget: The Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1

I’m a hardcore Apple fan and iOS user, and it’s no secret that I’m not a DroidOS fan at all. It’s a long story. Anyway, I was given the opportunity to “test drive” the new Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1, and I obliged. What the hell, I thought, I’ll check it out. After having some time with it, I’m surprisingly happy that I did.
The Galaxy Tablet is slim, light and sleek. Its dimensions are slightly wider in landscape view, slightly shorter in height and weighs a bit less than an iPad 2. I found it to be a bit easier to handle, actually. However, I do wish there was some type of cover for the Galaxy Tablet to decrease the likelihood of slipping out from my hands when using and as some added protection.
So what was the first thing I did when my Galaxy Tablet was up and running? I went to the Mart to check out Twitter clients to download, of course, and did so. I downloaded Tweetcaster which is a popular third-party app for DroidOS. Pretty intuitive, nothing fancy or complicated. I was tweeting away from the Galaxy Tablet, no problem! I have yet to go through the Mart to really discover what available apps are out there for the Galaxy Tablet.
I find the screen resolution on the Galaxy Tablet is awesome. Images are sharp and detailed. The Galaxy Tablet also has front facing and back cameras of which are both easy to operate. The resolution of the pictures are ok, so it’s a good thing that the camera function isn’t a big deal to me.
What I was really pleased to see is that one of the pre-loaded apps is Quickoffice HD on the Galaxy Tablet. At some point, I’d like to leave the laptop at home and bring something much lighter with me to do work. The Galaxy Tablet appears to be just the thing, with this app. I’ll be able to create/edit basic documents in Word, Excel, etc., AND create a basic Powerpoint! I’m pretty excited about that. I shall report back on the ease (or not) of doing so.
Overall, based on what little time I’ve spent with the Galaxy Tablet so far, I’m finding that I like it! Next up, find more apps to and more “play time” with the Galaxy Tablet.
